perhaps our own modern day setting that provides the most interesting interactions between culture and language. The reason for this is that culture is rapidly becoming more technology driven, and
in particular, by technologies that center on communication, such as cell phones, and mobile networking devices like the iPhone or Droid. As a consequence, culture is moving faster than ever,
its speed of transition keeping past with the historically breakneck speed of the technology that is now driving it. Consequently, language and communication are evolving and growing faster than ever
before, and in newer and more interesting ways as well. Geneva Whites article "Corporate Names and Products Creep into Everyday Language" highlights the interesting trend of people beginning to
use trademarked names as generalized verbs for activities. Examples include the use of the verb "google" (taken from the trademark name of information giant Google, of course) to mean "using
a search engine", as in, "let me google that and see what I come up with" (White 2007). Additionally, one might express the desire to "Netflix" a particular film, or
"Tivo" an enjoyable program they wont be able to catch on television (White 2007). This has some historical precedent, but it seems that with the increased number of brands and
corporate identities that have arisen because of the internet, its happening now at a faster rate than before. Caitlin Miner LeGrands article "More than Language" highlights the realization among language
educators that language is becoming difficult to teach outside of a cultural context. While educators have always sought to provide some cultural insights when teaching a language, this has never
