With the advancement of the Internet and its associate methods of communication such as e-mail, video-conferencing, the fax machine and the telephone, virtual learning is becoming more cost effective. With the proliferation of virtual teams, even more cross-cultural communication is taking place. Further to truly be successful in the global market place it is necessary to recognize both the challenges and opportunities that are presented in the cross-cultural communication setting. GLOBALIZATION Simply defined globalization is the development and sustenance of worldwide economic relationships between nations. The term globalization has developed significant emotional connotations. Some individuals see it as a process which is beneficial. They feel that globalization is a process which is the key to the future of the economic development of the world. These same individuals also feel that globalization is inevitable and irreversible. However, other individuals almost fear the idea of globalization. These individuals think that globalization increases inequality not only between nations but also within a country.
