where the government owns everything, has never really existed. There are Marxist elements in American government today which is an example of capitalism mixed with socialism. Much debate has occurred
over Americas social welfare system, for example, and the subject is often divided by party lines; the question becomes should unproductive people reap benefits from the fruits of labor of
another. While the Judeo-Christian belief is to help those in need, another premise which springs from religion is a work ethic. And, frankly, people are tired of paying for others
to sit back and watch television while they go out and work. While the United States is certainly, without question, a capitalist nation some socialist concepts have been integrated to
address the problems which are not alleviated by that form of rule. Most governments today, also, support capitalism. The trend away from communism, and towards capitalism was largely influenced by
the fall of socialist countries in Eastern Europe. Max Weber looks at the rise of capitalism as a partial result of the Protestant work ethic. Thus, the development of
modern personality, a firm work ethic and a motivational structure is all oriented towards greater productivity. Karl Marx, on the other hand, focuses on theories surrounding labor and alienation. Both
have much to do with capitalism but each theorist treats the subject differently. Weber expressed that capitalism did not just have to do with the acquisition of wealth,
but rather the implementation of a system to create money. Thus, it is not what a person may buy with the money that drives capitalism but the making of the
