incidence of breast cancer among American women. Problem Statement: The author then relates that the risk of breast cancer has been shown repeatedly to be related to both racial
and SES designation. However, what is unclear is whether or not it is race or SES that accounts for the higher risk for breast cancer among white, non-Hispanic women with
high SES. Statement of Purpose: As the above statement indicates, Vainshtein creates a persuasive rationale for conducting this study, as the body of previous research is confusing as to
what constitutes the greatest risk for breast cancer, race or SES. This study contributes to nursing practice as it offers informed guidance on how to interpret the body of empirical
data on this topic. Research Hypotheses: Whether than formulate hypotheses, the authors research team was guided by research questions which were whether the literature was in consensus as to
a relationship between SES and breast cancer risk that exists across racial boundaries and whether or not SES could be considered as accountable for the disparity between the races in
regards to breast cancer incidence. The methodology employed was a good fit for this research problem as the research team investigated and evaluated studies from a variety of sources in
order to come to an uninformed answer to the research questions. Statistical analysis was not undertaken due to the inconsistencies in methodology between the various studies. Therefore, rather than
undertake analyses that would be inherently flawed due to these differences, the research team evaluated the data qualitatively, which seems to be an appropriate step given these circumstances. Vainshteins
research team concluded from this study that differences between races in regards to the risk for developing breast cancer can be largely attributed to difference in SES between among white,
