Discussion Evidence of human influence on global warming Journalistic bias Response to skeptics Conclusion This argument begins with information that shows the influence of human activity on the planets climate, and argues that while some of the warming is part of a natural cycle, there is sufficient evidence to suggest that much of it is due to human activity. The argument touches on the way in which journalists, in an attempt to provide "balanced" coverage of the issue, have actually given excessive weight to skeptics. It ends with a response to those same skeptics. Introduction There is no doubt that the earth is getting warmer, but whether that is part of a natural cycle or the result of human activity is the subject of much debate. This paper argues that there is sufficient evidence to show that global warming, while partly natural, has been exacerbated by human activity to the point where the survival of the planet and the human race can now be considered in jeopardy. The paper also argues that in attempting to provide "balanced" coverage of the matter, the media has given too much weight to the skeptics and not enough to those scientists who are sounding the alarm. Discussion In one sentence, Meyer shows why the case for human activity as a cause of global warming can be difficult to make: "The human imprint on the earth could be described as unmistakable, were it not often mistaken for he work of nature or natural phenomena for human impacts" (1).
