It is a powerful novel that speaks of the all consuming power brought through Imperialism and the European people as native cultures are ultimately destroyed through religious changes and social changes. The following paper presents a review of Achebes novel. Arrow of God by Chinua Achebe Include author biases: In truly understanding this story, and any biases the author many have, it is imperative to know something of his past and life. He is, it seems, perhaps the most perfect individual to write about imperialism, native cultures, and the Christian religion and its impact on his people, because he was very much the product of two worlds: "Chinua Achebe was born in Ogidi, Nigeria, the son of a teacher in a missionary school. His parents, though they installed in him many of the values of their traditional Igbo culture, were devout evangelical Protestants and christened him" (ChinuaAchebe.com). He was brought up in both worlds and thus very aware of the power of both. As such it does not seem that he is biased but rather an authority on the social realities he presents in this novel. Authors thesis and supporting arguments: With the previous information at hand it seems evident that part of his thesis is simply in pointing out both sides, pointing out the truth regarding the fact that perhaps not one side or the other was necessarily perfect or right, but that things changed due to interaction and this history is important to know.
