of the more complete works is that by Stuart Schram entitled The Political Thought of Mao Tse-tung. This is an anthology with a commentary making the work accessible as well as helping the reader place the works and ideas into context. The strength of the book is the inclusion of extracts from many of Mao Tse-Tungs works, many that are not included in the larger anthologies of his writing. These are works that not only outline his political ideas, but also give a greater insight to the man, his motivation and personality and characteristics. It is also worth noting that these extracts are worth looking at for any serous scholar as they have the original wording and meaning (translated). Many of the Mao Tse-Tung texts have since been altered by official sources in China. Therefore there will be discrepancies, but the words come from the original documents and not the official version of those texts. In many cases where the discrepancies took place prior to the publishing of the book there is attention brought to these changes by the author. The book was first published in 1963, with a second edition in 1969, which we are reviewing. This second additions has several changes put into the text with the benefit of hindsight. The reason for this was the first version appeared outdated after the cultural revision and the increased level of publishing of Mao Tse-Tungs texts after 1965. This second edition released in 1969 had an increased level of information, including previous omitted elements such as the military thought of Mao Tse-Tung.
