social justice in the modern day deny the necessity for social constructs determined by Aristotle; the significance of behavior in the development of justice through natural law for Aquinas; and
the imperative nature of justice as a means for supporting self-interest developed by Hume. It is Youngs contention that justice can only be served by recognizing the societal
roles of man. For the most part, man lives within social constructs, a part of a multiplicity, and as a result, must demonstrate concern for the totality of his
community. For Young, the whole of society, the community of man, is as important as the individual concerns of each man. Her considerations develop around the necessity to
impact the whole rather than elementally consider the singular needs of its members. At the same time, Young also recognized that the needs of all men could not be
met under the same constructs. Young suggested that "a democratic public should provide mechanisms for the effective recognition and representation of the distinct voices and perspectives of
those of its constituent groups that are oppressed or disadvantaged"(Young 185). This is basic to her notions of justice, which are based on the provisions made by all
men for the society in which they develop. Youngs concepts of justice and mans role in society appear to challenge those presented by Aristotle. Aristotle argued
that societal constructs, social determinants were an inherent part of justice. Aristotle even went as far as to state that: "From the hour of their birth, some are marked
out for subjection and some for command" (Heilbroner 35). This recognition of the necessary roles of a social hierarchy as being elemental to provisions for justice is not supported
