Immanuel Kant, an 18th century German philosopher made an argument for republics in an essay "Perpetual Peace," thus positing the idea that democracies are inherently disposed to peace. Woodrow Wilson and Dwight Eisenhower had similar notions. There are also those with the notion that the idea of democratic peace has too much charm. It suggests the theories discussed a century ago that commerce between states would keep Europe at peace until the First World War (Anonymous3 PG). When women were police officers during the First World War, they were required to perform such jobs as handling of pregnant female prisoners, those females suspected of prostitution, females that had to be searched, and the "subordination and training of women officers" (Levine, 1994, 34). This shows that women were considered sub-standard to the male officers during the time of World War I. "The Long Fuse: An Interpretation of the Origins of World War I" was written by Laurence Davis Lafore. In this text, Lafore gives his interpretation as to the causes of World War I. In this tome, Lafore gives the reader a virtual mechanism for understanding not only the other causes that lead to World War I, but also the contribution of Serbian nationalism in this event.
