There is also the situation wherein many stay at home mothers think they do far more and are thus better mothers than the working mothers. The following paper examines this controversy, comparing and contrasting their roles and success. Working Mothers and Stay at Home Mothers First and foremost the element that should perhaps be discussed is work itself. A working mother has the opportunity to go outside the home and work, making a living, making a name for herself, and adding to the economic position of the family. A stay at home mom has a job but it is not outside the home, therefore her work generally goes widely unrecognized. Her work is, however, likely possessed of many of the same things as the working mother for both the working mother and the stay at home mother will generally cook, clean, do the laundry, get kids here and there, help with homework, and many other tasks. In truth, though their jobs are different, "People recognize that both Stay at Home Moms and Working Moms carry a heavy load of responsibility and work long hours" (Jost, 2008). In terms of hours spent working, it appears as though they both work approximately the same amount of hours a week, just in different environments. "Working Moms reported spending 44 hours per week at their work job and 49.8 hours at their mom job, for a total of 93.8 hours per week. The Stay-at-Home Mom works 91.6 hours at her mom job" (Jost, 2008). This indicates that while their jobs are different they both end up working about the same amount. ...
