role models. Gay families in general seem to support the notion that homosexuality is normal or a lifestyle choice. Yet, while those who oppose the lifestyle may appear ignorant or hateful, the truth is that they recognize that gay relationships are simply not meant to be. Further, these unions spread diseases so should not be construed as healthy adult relationships. Although it is true that AIDS now knows no bounds, AIDS is primarily transmitted through "anal sex between men" (Rollins, 2002, 161). It is not politically correct to say, but AIDS is a gay disease. It first emanated from the gay community. The fact that the lifestyle to some extent, at least in gay men, is aligned with disease is a reason not to support gay parenting. Of course, even if two gay men are celibate and do not have AIDS, the gay community is attached to the disease, suggesting that homosexuality can be a dangerous practice and should not be societally sanctioned. Hence, the children are exposed to AIDS much more frequently. Although not politically correct to suggest that this is problematic, the truth is that the children are at greater risk when they have homosexual parents. The second reason why gay parenting is wrong is that it sets up identity issues. That is not to suggest that it sets up gender identity or confusion with prescribed roles or even a predestination towards homosexuality, but rather it steals the identity of the child away from them. As with most adoptions, there is always that desire to learn who the biological parents are.
