Futurism was the progenitor of exquisite innovations and delightfully oblivious cul-de-sacs. The poet Vasilisk Gnedov was responsible for "creating" The Ultimate Poem, pure like snow, a blank sheet of paper. Malevich gave the world a white square on an absolutely white surface. Velimir Khlebnikov (1885 - 1922) created his new and magical language and created poetry completely unique with it. Vladimir Tatlin designed a famous glider, which was, unfortunately, never flown. This creative mindset gave birth to a creatively stimulating era which captivated the intellectual elite in Russia and throughout the rest of the "civilized" world. It seems that the Russian genius was able to thoroughly develop a world with such uniquely superior talent that it became not only the most stylistically exotic art form of the twentieth century, but one which also largely came to define the characteristics of the epoch (Pankov PG). At the beginning of the century the first Russian Futurists, Matyushin, Guro, Kamnesky, the Burliuks, Kruchenykh, Mayakovsky, and Khlebnikov felt themselves to be the creators of a new planet. At their first congress in 1913, in a small Finnish town, they declared war on healthy thought and `symmetric logic, putting forward a symbol and a plan for a new world.
