                                                    or another. The following paper examines the disease through a discussion of Haitian beliefs and also through a discussion of how governments deal with TB.   Tuberculosis  
                                                
                                                    In Tracy Kidders work Mountains Beyond Mountains the author gives an account of the work of Paul Farmer, a physician who works with many patients  
                                                
                                                    in Haiti. In this work he also examines issues connected with Haitian beliefs in sorcery and how that influences the treatment of TB. Farmer believed that there was a connection  
                                                
                                                    between the patients likelihood of taking medication and their belief in sorcery. It was perhaps believed that if they believed too strongly in sorcery, that they had contracted the illness  
                                                
                                                    from someone who wanted to do them harm, they would be less likely to take the medications. It is also noted that once they start to feel better they will  
                                                
                                                    stop taking antibiotics which, of course, leads to a condition wherein the TB is not fully cured or treated. But, Farmer noted that what truly made a difference in their  
                                                
                                                    getting better, or not, was more deeply connected to their personal treatment rather than just antibiotics: "He asked all of them among other question, if they believed TB came from
