Of course, every religion to some extent is also attached to food and associated traditions. For example, many people get to together with their families to have dinner on Easter Sunday. It is part of he tradition. Similarly, food takes an important place in Hinduism. Certain food items are related to certain Hindu holidays (Oxtoby, 2002). In the temple, food is often offered to the deity (Oxtoby, 2002). Once again, attention to food in tradition is not unusual for any religion or discipline. This is where the Ayurvedic tradition comes in (Oxtoby, 2002). Many are familiar with that type of medication. Vedas are applied to diets in Ayurvedic medicine (Oxtoby, 2002). For this religion, there is a sense of pride and desire to worship. In the tradition the senses are entrusted, particularly the eyes, and an apprehension of the holy (Eck, 1991). Hindus go to temple and say that they are going to darshana, and not necessarily going to worship (Eck, 1991). Darshana is translated to mean seeing and in a religious light, it generally means to go to see God or to be with God (Eck, 1991). One gets a sense that he people go because they want to and not due to a sense of obligation. Offerings are water, food, incense, and camphor lamps (Eck, 1991). The act of Hindu worship is equated with receiving the prasada, or the consecrated food offerings (Eck, 1991).
