As such, maintaining ones competitive edge within the computer graphics design industry while immersed within the global marketplace not only takes substance and endurance but also an inherent ability to see beyond tomorrow. Establishing a companys firm grip upon the many variables that are associated with competitiveness is a challenge that most encounter with a mixture of eagerness and anticipation. It is not always an easy venture to maintain ones position given the ever-changing atmosphere of technological advancement (Lovejoy PG). There have been myriad technological advances throughout the past one hundred years. Indeed, the twentieth century turned out to be the springboard for the unprecedented advancement in the graphic design industry, effectively availing entirely new and divergent concepts with which designers can create. One of the most significant breakthroughs in the industry has been the transformation between two-dimensional and three-dimensional work. Two- and three-dimensional design has much to do with the mathematical aspect of its presence; indeed, without understanding the basics of shape, one cannot fully appreciate how two-dimensional design can transform into a three-dimensional entity. Establishing texture and the ultimate three-dimensional effect is what becomes the final stage of the overall process, as the designer calculates his exact image through the use of two separate monitors. The finished product is sent to a digital photographic printer who transforms the multiple images into the exact size and specification necessary for the three-dimensional effect, at which time the lenses represent the final touch (Means PG).
