that value by the end of 1990. After some false starts, the Nikkei appeared to be recovering but the Asian currency crisis and the fall of the Japanese banking industry curtailed that advance. The market appears to have stabilized, and the nation's economy is healthier as well. The paper recommends that investors still use caution, however. Foreign funds are pouring into Tokyo, but
