much more than American entertainment, it served as a wake up call to our criminal justice system and, indeed, to the American public as a whole. Everything from evidence forensics to jury selection came under the public eye in a manner that had never been equaled before. To be admissible to the courtroom any type of evidence must, by definition, be considered forensic given that the world "forensic" itself is derived from the Latin word meaning "court of law". Forensic evidence, therefore, is used to prove the guilt or innocence of an individual. Both the defense and the prosecution presented worthy cases in the Simpson case but the forensics were most obviously flawed. The Prosecution in the Simpson case had to deal with a circus or errors ranging from the way the evidence was collected at the scene, to the specifics of the manner in which it was analyzed, to the manner the jury was selected. The defense, in contrast, not only had the letter of the law on their side, the letter of the law that specified O.J. Simpson was innocent until proven guilty, they also had emotion on their side. The O.J. Simpson case did indeed become a theatrical production but it was a production which served to educate the whole nation. The requirement that a defendant be tried by a jury of their peers was the first major stumbling block in the O.J. Simpson case. The jury that was selected, a jury approved by both the defense and the prosecution, was definitely stacked in Simpsons favor on the basis of the highly emotional nature of the trial.
