Humanistic psychology in the last 35 years has also influenced the existing perceptions of the nature of the personality as a whole, distinctions between pragmatic and spiritual personality traits and dimensions, as well as assisted in redefining some of the characteristics of personality as they are viewed in human interactions and behaviors. When considering personality traits, it is not uncommon to associate the personality trait with a persons behavior: if a person is easily agitated or angered, they are often defined as having aggressive personality characteristics, while a person who is complacent in their behavior is often described as a passive personality. But associating behaviors with distinctions in terms of personality characteristics is only on small segment of what psychologists evaluate in terms of personality. Freud and Jung both considered the nature of dreams and their importance in evaluating personality properties, especially personality characteristics that exist outside of the common structure of behavior-related traits (Kalat, 1989). A number of theorists over the last two decades have applied Freudian and Jungian personality distinctions based on dream analysis as an element of understanding the spiritual and metaphysical components of personality. Cann and Donderi (1986, as cited by Jacka, 1991) applied Jungian distinctions in personality, especially those that are directed by metaphysical or spiritual components and reflected within the scope of dream. The researchers found that different subjects, depending on their personality types and their propensity for different personality characteristics, remembered different dreams that provided insight into their less tangible personality characteristics. ...
