While a great deal has been written about South American stability on the rise in regions like Brazil, Colombia also presents an interesting venue in which the achievement of increased national stability can be observed. Under presidents Uribe and Santos, the Colombian government has succeeded in both modernizing the countrys economy and stabilizing the political system; a great achievement for a country often typified by paramilitary violence and the drug trade. This paper will address the various programs and initiatives put into place by Uribe and Santos, with an eye towards the positive impact they have had on Colombias growing national stability.
