This piece of artwork is now currently housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Otto the Great and The Magdeburg Ivory Otto the Great lived in 936-973 (Otto the Great Exhibition, 2002). He lived in Magdeburg and he absolutely loved it there (Otto the Great Exhibition, 2002). Once he came to rule his empire he remained there, and as ruler he brought much notoriety and prominence to that area (Otto the Great Exhibition, 2002). In fact, Magdeburg became quite a political and religious center as well as a major cultural crossroads between the East and the West (Otto the Great Exhibition, 2002). As time passed, Otto the Great instigated the settlement of the Holy Roman Empire in Magdeburg as well as the settlement of many people in response to this (Otto the Great Exhibition, 2002).
