For example, many primary healthcare doctors have seen insurance premiums more than triple over the last decade due to the way litigation take place. For many doctors the desire to give their patient the best care as well as the knowledge that a mistake could lead to litigation resulted in a plethora of tests being conducted. This environment where all possibilities were investigated, as long as a patient had sufficient insurance was one that increased the income for the medical laboratory, with may samples sent to them for testing as a precaution rather than a general suspicion. The impact was felt in several ways, this increased the demand for laboratory services, which initially increased some costs due to increased demand and the willingness of the insurance companies to make the payments. However this environment was also one where the use of tests was seen as popular and as such aided the development of new test techniques for new and existing conditions. However, it also increased the costs of healthcare and became one of the problems of rising costs. The insurance companies over time have sought to reduce costs by controlling more of the tests and treatments that they would allow. The spiralling costs also increased the costs of insurance to individuals and employers who needed to make savings.
