This paper gives some of the statistics and interesting information as to why it has taken Russia longer to catch on to the Internet and the use of computers, and how it has affected their society. RUSSIA AND THE INTERNET One of the reasons Russia has been slow to log on to the Internet in Russia is because there are few Internet investors who are willing to put their money into Russian Internet providers. The service is risky at best and not at all reliable. "Theres no easy money to be made in the Russian Internet and investors have realized that", said Tom Adshead, an analyst at the Troika Dialog brokerage in Moscow. "All Internet projects are long-term projects, and its going to take time before [investors] will make money" (Internet in Russia 2002, PG). One of the reasons there has not been much money to be made in the Russian Internet endeavors is because the number of computer users who surf the web just arent that many. The figures havent risen as rapidly as was expected. There isnt enough interest right now. That could be changing, however, as the last few months have seen an upward spiral in the number of people getting Internet access, but it has been a very slow acceptance on the part of Russian society in getting used to the Internet.
