Others applaud the worked that the United Nations has done through the years and sees it as a vital global force that can change things for the better. Its history suggests that it is an important part of the world, particularly because it has been around for more than half a century. The United Nations would come into existence due to World War II (Fasulo 1). What happened was that President Roosevelt and Prime Minister Churchill as well as some other leaders decided that the creation of an organization to keep the peace was necessary (Fasulo 1). Fasulo also notes that in defining the United Nations, many people believe that it is an organization devoted to world peace and that it is what it appears to be, at least according to the flow chart (Fasulo 3). That is the first tier of the organization, but when moving to the second tier, things become more complex (Fasulo 4). Also, related organizations are "in a unique group" as they have two organizations that have the same acronym : the World Trade Organization and the World Tourism Organization (Fasulo 4). The author explains that everyone has heard of the World Trade Organization (Fasulo 4). Many know it as the WTO. The latter organization is something almost no one has heard of (Fasulo 4). In relaying this information, one gets a sense that the United Nations is quite different from what it appears in media or on the surface.
