failures. Like Napoleon he did conquer lands and lived in that period of history where things were changing. It was a time when the French Revolution would come right after
the American Revolution. People would not put up with monarchy any longer. Things were changing and Bolivar was a part of that transition. Not as well known as Napoleon for
his role, it should be said that he was entrenched in liberation. In some way, one might look back on that time period and see it as an era of
independence. How did Bolivar characterize this identity? One might go to a biography of the man, or rather, read through a work of historic fiction by an acclaimed novelist.
In the novel The General in His Labyrinth, Garcia Marquez writes about Simon Bolivar more as a hero than anything else. For Marquez, Bolivar has a vision that cannot
be comprised, but in the end, Bolivar is unsuccessful anyway. This lack of success comes at the end of his life, and it should be said that this is not
something intended to characterize the totality of his life. In the work, only his final days are created. While the book focuses on a short period of time, it should
be said that what is distinguished is Bolivars story. The novel is biographical more than it is about the war and the meaning of independence. At the same time, to
write about Bolivar in this manner is to accentuate the meaning of independence. This is after all what Bolivar was about and the concept is a significant thematic element in
