It was only a decade, but as we can see from our own experience with but one decade, a great deal of change was instigated. Bearing that in mind the following paper briefly examines some of the events of the 1490s, illustrating their influence on the Renaissance. The Decade of the 1490s One interesting device which was to change Italy, if not the world, was the "advent of printing in the 1490s" It was "the Italian printer Aldus Manutius" who "established a Greek press in Venice. The choice of location no doubt dictated by the availability of Greek texts in the library of St. Marks, for Manutius based his editions on these books" (Harris, 2002). With that invention, however, knowledge began to be far more accessible to people. It was to ultimately change the world. We note that "Manutius made use of the large pool of native Greek speakers provided by the Greek community to assist him in the preparation of texts for publication. It was with the help of ?migr? Greeks like Demetrius Doukas and Mark Mousouros, that Manutius produced printed editions of nearly all the works of the major Greek authors of antiquity before 1515, thus ensuring their survival for posterity" (Harris, 2002). In pointing to some other events, we look first at some information that offers events along a timeline. In 1490 "Leonardo da Vinci describes capillary action after Veronese anatomist Marc Antonia Della Torre dies and he dissects 10 human bodies in the cellar of the Santa Spirito by candlelight to fulfill a vow to him" (Winslow. 2002).
