Latin literature contains a myriad of stories which enlighten our view on the human role in the grand plan of the universe. The Aeneid is one such story. This tale is reputed, in fact, to be the most important poem in Latin literature (Levi, 1999). In Book Vi of "The Aeneid" Virgil relates the story of Aeneas journey to the underworld. This story has been analyzed throughout history as to its intended meaning, analyzed for insight into how Virgil intended the story as a portrayal of mans place in the universe. Authors as diverse as PhDs and undergrads have tackled "The Aeneid". Far too many of such reviews, however, are better described as ridiculous than as serious considerations of Virgils real meaning in "The Aeneid" (Levi, 1999). The purpose of this paper is to provide yet one more analysis of this timeless story. The contention will be presented that this story is really symbolic of the story of life. It will be contended, in fact, that Aeneas journey into and from the underworld is similar to the epic of mankinds path of salvation, the redemption of souls, and rebirth, a central focus in lifes journey for all cultures and time periods. Mankind throughout history has been in a in a constant quandary about our origin and our relationship with the rest of the world.
