Giltman 8/2010 Please First published in 1989, Steven F. Coveys The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change quickly became a national bestseller. Coveys motivational work explains the personal changes people must make if they wish to become a highly effective person. He breaks the book down into the seven different habits and explains in-depth the changes an individual must make in order to achieve this goal. This essay will analyze those seven habits as well as Coveys coined terms abundance mentality and what they mean. The first habit Covey conveys to the reader is to be proactive. Here, Covey explains that highly effective people have the ability to react and respond to certain stimuli. In other words, rather than complaining about certain problems or situations, Covey encourages the individual to do something about it. If they see a wrong, make it right. Take the initiative to work out the problems. It is clich? but actions speak louder than words and rather than being reactive, in which one allows things to happen to them, individuals can set the tone in which they have a say how things are going to go.
