new technology implementation, when the old one likely would have worked just as well. What then, are some factors management should consider before
approving any kind of technology change in the companys technology? For one thing, the first step is pretty important - namely what expectations are from the new technology (DeSilva and
Vednere, 2008). If the expectations are to speed up time and manage costs, it should first be determined if the old technology can do just as good a job with
a simple upgrade. Another aspect that needs to be considered is future growth. Many companies get caught in buying the latest technology, only
to find it obsolete in a year or two. If management is considering a technology change, then it needs to consider the needs it will have down the road, as
well as in the present. Management also needs to consider who will be using the technology once its upgraded. If more people will
be involved as end-users, this will need to be taken into account in terms of training, as well as the amount of resources dedicated to aspects such as extra work
stations. All of this needs to be outlined in a detailed implementation and upgrade plan, which would involve many people. Management, certainly, and
the IT folks would be involved. But so should the end-users involved. These are, after all, the folks who will be using the system once its up and running. If
