installation art is something that requires the person viewing it to also experience it since it is not a static and two dimensional visual representation hanging on a wall. Certainly, Hillers work demands that it be "experienced." It may involve hundreds of earphones hanging from a ceiling in which people speaking in different languages tell their stories of having been abducted by aliens. It may also be a unique display of young girls with psychic or paranormal powers from Hollywood movies. Her art installations are as varied and multi-dimensional as she herself is. For example, her education and experience is based in anthropology and archaeology and are the fields in which she worked while still in the U.S. She began her work as an artist in 1973 when she moved to London. It should be noted that she has never limited her artistic expression to only one medium or frame of reference. Instead, she is a writer, painter, and performer who uses photography, video, audio effects and found objects as easily as other artists might use a keyboard or paintbrush. Hiller describes her own art as something of an "archaeological investigation, uncovering something to make a different kind of sense of it" (Internet source).
