paper presents 4 hypothetical/creative stories concerning Japan or the Japanese. Stories: Japan 1. Hiro Nakamura: an extreme case of Japanese politeness to foreigners.
While many people think that the Japanese are only relatively polite, at least to non-Japanese people, there are some who go out of their way to be
extremely polite, demonstrating to others that Japanese people are good people. One such person is Hiro Nakamura. Hiro is a man who has lived through many decades of change in
Japan and he is not happy. He is torn by his love of his people and the fact that his people have engaged in some of the most horrific times
in history. His chance to shine, and represent his people, came with the arrival of a foreign exchange student. The student, an American
boy of 16, was less than polite to the Nakamura family and seemed very racist, constantly telling the family he had wanted to go to Australia but had been sent
to Japan instead. Despite being called "yellow" and "Jap," despite being sneered at and the student muttering under his breath the entire time he was there, Hiro constantly bowed to
him, as though he were to be respected. He brought him food, and made him special Japanese food that was generally reserved for special occasions or special elderly guests. He
