ways that the house of representatives works. Steven Waldmans book gave Joes father an excellent insight to what it was really like behind the seat of power, and the problems
and joys of trying to get a bill passed as legislation in the United States of America. Steven Waldman is a correspondent from
Newsweek. This appears to give him a great insight and knowledge of how the actual system really works, rather than how we all think it should work. His book is
eye opening and easy to read as it keeps the readers attention though out. If a piece of legislation needs to be
passed we all assume that is should be an easy task to achieve, but it is not. The politics comes into its own when trying to get a bill passed.
Deals within deals and people changing sides, it appears to be more the stage set for a soap opera than the place from which the country is run..... until the
actual subject matter is considered. The first problem is actually getting the language right for the bill. This was a problem with
the AmeriCorps programme. Although the actual intention was simple and the concept was not to stretching actually translating into the correct acceptable language for the book was difficult, and in
the end the bill was separated into two parts. Steven Waldman goes into great detail in the manner that bills are pushed
through and the dealing that goes on to get a bill such as this one passed. In fact this would be a good read for anyone who is now in
