first play, Fr?hlings Erwachen (1891; Springs Awakening), was censored because of the subject matter-teen pregnancy, eroticism, sexual promiscuity and sexual experimentation. Finally, it was banned for the most grotesque
ending to its story-the subject of teen suicide-because of the inability of the young adults advisors to consider their children as anything other than objects upon which to issue punishment
