are sports, and all sports have a fundamental relationship to one another simply by virtue of that fact. In addition, they are both team sports, the object of play in
both games is a ball, they can be played at both the amateur and professional levels, they can be played indoors or outdoors, and they can be played by both
men and women. These similarities, however, are somewhat generic; that is, they can be applied to most sports. The differences are more striking. In the first place, soccer teams
consist of 11 players (Basic soccer rules - 17 rules, 2007) while volleyball teams can have up to 12 (Rules of the game, 2008). The volleyball court is rectangular, measuring
9 x 18 meters, "surrounded by a free zone which is a minimum of 3 m wide on all sides" (Rules of the game, 2008). The soccer field, on the
other hand, "must be between 90 and 120 meters long and 45 to 90 meters wide. However, it must also have a rectangular shape, so you cant have a square
field with a length and width of 90 at the same time (Basic soccer rules - 17 rules, 2007). In order to score a point in volleyball, a team
has several options. It can ground the ball "on the opponents court"; or it will receive a point if the other team "commits a fault"; or when the other team
"receives a penalty" (Rules of the game, 2008). Faults are actions that violate the rules of the game; they are judged by the referee who not only calls the fault
