Sometimes, not addressing issues has a habit of snowballing and in the end, an individual may stagnate in a position. Human beings generally do try to improve. Someone wanting to improve in respect to management should first evaluate his or her shortcomings and come up with a goal oriented plan to make necessary changes. II. Evaluation An individual writing on this subject has identified four key issues related to leadership and management where a lack of skills is a problem. These areas relate to not being able to motivate staff, not using time management skills well, inconsistency, and not being results oriented. Each of these issues are important in the business realm. Motivation is a rather unique function of management that is generally aligned with leadership. Leadership is different from management but one can say that the two concepts go hand in hand. Some managers are better leaders than others. Ideally, in respect to motivation, a manager will adopt a transformational leadership style. Manning (2003) explains that transformational leadership is a style that is equated with a leaders pattern of interactions that actually serves to make the group more powerful, developed and satisfied. Such leaders nurture their followers. Sometimes there is an inspirational or charismatic element to it (Manning, 2003). Yet, the techniques employed may be rather simplistic.
