are many similarities between the two as well as differences. Therefore, these methodologies are better understood by recognizing their mutual quest to reveal essential truths about life. Both
art and science seek to inform and to uplift humanity through the interpretation of our world, thereby giving us a better framework through which to understand our own lives.
In this way then, even though on the surface the goals of art and science may at first seem opposed, in reality
they are very much the same. Both art and science seeks to expose that which is essential to life, and to bring forth an interpretation of life to which
others can relate. It is this process then that serves to unite humanity and to bring recognition of the collective human experience that is life.
Communicating observations of the world has always been central to art and science. Artists have exploited photography, film and graphic design tools for years,
while modern imaging techniques have enabled scientists to reveal some of the worlds most incredible structures magnified many million times. But do they present a scientific truth? Can we call
scientific images art (Beauty in Art and Science, 2005)? Both the scientist and the artist
have very compatible objectives. Both study nature and humanity because it is their passion to do so. Both see nature and humanity as beautiful and complex, and worth
