To each explanation mankind formed a sort of attachment, even a sort of love, for they salved his burning questions and clarified the role of each of his fellow inhabitants on Earth, his own, and the role of the Earth and the heavens themselves. Mankind carefully collected all of his observations regarding the workings of the world and grouped them into various disciplines. Two of these disciplines are science and religion. These disciplines have coexisted side-by-side for millennia each giving to and taking from the other. The two are often at odds with one another but the existence of neither can be denied or abolished. When we think back to that very first man who looked up from his earthly surroundings to view the vast expanse of heavens overhead we know the power and wonder that he must have had. His heart and soul must have been immediately captured as ours our today. Possibly out of awe but possibly out of fear he began to make up explanations for all that he saw. The constellations acquired names of more familiar items, animals, people and even gods, from that mans culture and they were explained away by involving them in actions with which he was most intimately familiar such as hunting, foraging, and falling in love. The natural earthly world became the object of similar pursuits. Explanations were formed to account for the way things were. Stories and folklore evolved telling why things were the way they were. Topics such as why the skunk had a stripe, why the crow was black, why the bear walked upright, and innumerable more were categorized and organize to become a quasi science/religion of the day.
