three religions-Judaism, Christianity and Islam-are very similar but have created significant divides in society. This becomes clear as one takes a look at the specifics but it is also obvious in a general way. Judaism is a religion based on the bible and what is known to have occurred since the inception of history. God created the world and the people were to obey his laws and the people were Jewish. In fact, Jesus Christ himself was born a Jew and because of the fact that he is considered the Messiah, a new religion is formed. Followers of Christ are called Christians. Islam was built on Christianity, but it is perhaps the most controversial of the three because of terrorism and a great deal of negativity in the world surrounding the perception of the religion. Islam differs from the Judeo-Christian tradition in that it holds that there are many prophets, the most significant of whom was Muhammad. Similarly, Islam is also a sect of Judaism, but instead of Jesus Christ as their leader, Muhammad is considered a messenger of God; instead of using the New Testament, the Quran establishes a set of beliefs and is the basis of the religion (Esposito, 1978). This began his quest for a true religion. Muhammad believed that both Judaism and Christianity had strayed and the people must get back to following the law of God. While believing in both the Old and New Testaments, Muhammad and his followers saw Jesus Christ as a prophet but not the Messiah. Muhammad was also deemed a prophet.
