Antonio Home Care is a start-up company providing home health care services. All patients are welcome, but the business will concentrate on providing home health care to those over the age of 65. Unlike the new technology or service that may or may not have a market, home health care is a service that always has a market of some size. The business is a proven one, one that has been documented for years as being successful - or at least carrying the potential for success. As with any other business, the proof of success is in the bottom line. Management of the business and of targeting appropriate customer segments can prove to be the defining point of success or failure. We believe we have the management and marketing capabilities are necessary for success in the San Antonio, Texas area. Area Demographics and Target Population San Antonio is a city of more than one million residents as of the 2000 Census; 13.6 percent of the total population (156,173 individuals) is over the age of 60; 10.4 percent of the population is over the age of 65 (DP-1, n.d.). There are 85,675 households with residents over the age of 65, representing 21.1 percent of the households in the area (DP-1, n.d.). The number of San Antonio residents over the age of 65 falling below the poverty line in the twelve months preceding the 2000 census was 12 percent, up from 9.4 percent a decade earlier (QT-03, n.d.).
