clearly a social problem. Not too long ago, there was a national political campaign in the city and it was alleged that the party did not want the homeless seen. In fact, to some extent, the homeless are invisible in a city that has tolerated the situation for some time. Why is this important? Some people do not believe that this is a relevant topic due to the myths of homelessness, which includes assumptions such as the idea that all homeless are drug addicts or alcoholics or people who just do not want to get along in society. As some conservatives who live quite nicely say, anyone in America can be successful. But the truth is that this is simply not the case. In Michael Moores (2003) Bowling for Columbine, it is suggested that the problem with America is the disparity in terms of income and the inability of the society to take care of its own people. Indeed, the topic is worthy of study because it gets to the heart of inequality in this industrialized nation. Just how do people become homeless? As some say, they are one paycheck away from homelessness. While many people do save money for emergencies, there are many people in the lower and middle income brackets who have little put away. If they have no credit, and no one to bail them out in an emergency, they become homeless. They may stay in a relatives home, or in a shelter, or on the street, but no matter where they stay temporarily, they do not have a place that they can call "home."
