Every company that produces an operating system feels that their operating system is the best. Most end-users do not give much thought to the type of operating system their computer must use to function. Operating systems, however, are fundamental components to the computer. Without these, the computer would not be able to interface. There are several computer operating systems on the market today such as Novel, Unix, and Windows NT. Each is owned and produced by a different company. Not surprisingly, each type of operating system has a certain market. Although some have asserted that Windows NT is not a suitable operating system for home and game-playing users, this has been challenged in the past. Because of the ability to configure NT to dual-boot with MS-DOS, it can be the choice operating system for not only business users, but home users as well. Windows NT is not suitable, however, for users on the go. What this means is that Windows NT is not the operating system of choice for notebook computers. There is a power management lag with Windows NT, which makes working with a laptop less than optimal. On a positive note, Windows NT does offer a secure file system (Chernicoff 05D). Chernicoff said, "Switching to NT didnt just cost me the ability to put the system in suspend mode and hot-swap PC Card devices, though.
