An inability to throw anything away is also another common sign ("Common," 2007). Interestingly, Monica probably does not have OCD. In fact, many people check the stove before they leave the house or like to neaten the living room. In fact, Penzel (2000) warns that the terms obsessive and compulsion are used quite frequently in the general population. This to some extent minimizes the seriousness of the true disorder. It might cause people to believe they have OCD when they really are just a bit anxious. Diagnosis is more complex and symptoms are marked. Jack Nicholson, who played a character with a severe case of OCD in As Good As It Gets is a better example of the condition. In the film, he was so obsessed with germs, he brought plasticware to a diner everyday instead of using ordinary utensils. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is an interesting malady.
