from one another. Art is something that generally pushes past cultural barriers and becomes assimilated and altered for another culture. The following paper examines 6 different art pieces from 6 different regions and time periods. The paper examines each separately while also discussing how the influence of other cultures may be seen in some of the work. Classical Greek One of the most classic Greek figures in sculpture is the kouros. In relationship to the particular kouros to be examined it is noted that the work is made from marble and it dates ca. 590-580 B.C. (Metropolitan Museum of Art [4], 2006). "This kouros is one of the earliest marble statues of a human figure carved in Attica" (Metropolitan Museum of Art [4], 2006). It possesses a strength and position of stance that is very reflective of Egyptian influence as it has one leg forward and the arms are at the sides of the figure (Metropolitan Museum of Art [4], 2006). For much of the ancient Greek art there was a very rigid stance to the figures in terms of sculpture. This was due to, in large part, the fact that the Greeks liked to envision men, the primary subject of sculpture, as regal and noble and strong characters. There was nothing more powerful than the figure of a man, a young man, and the strength and resolve of the Greek images were seen in sculptures such as the kouros. This particular "pose provided a clear, simple formula that was used by Greek sculptors throughout the sixth century B.C. In this early figure, geometric, almost abstract forms predominate, and anatomical details are rendered in beautiful analogous patterns" (Metropolitan Museum of Art [4], 2006). ...
