The previous data released in 1998 revealed: * Black = 16.9% (NEA, 2000). * Hispanic = 14.0% (NEA, 2000). * Asian American/Pacific Islander = 3.8% (NEA, 2000). * American Indian = 1.1% (NEA, 2000). * Total Non-White = 35.8% (NEA, 2000). * White = 64.2% (Kuttner, 1999). These data reflect the total students attending K - 12 schools in America (Kuttner, 1999). These data are based on the total enrollment of nearly 53 million in the K-12 schools across the nation, almost 47 million of which are public K-12 schools (NEA, 2000). The increasingly more diverse make-up of Americas schools is more prevalent in some states and in some regions of those states.
