are many who would like to see the natural pharmaceutical legalized throughout the nation to help individuals who are suffering from chronic pain, chronic conditions, and physical discomfort often associated with treatments such as chemotherapy. Yet modern medicine argues that there are enough drugs on the market to help patients and there should be no legalization of marijuana. The following paper examines this issue and argues for the legalization of medical marijuana. Medical Marijuana In relationship to the pros and cons of legalizing medical marijuana it seems all but ridiculous to struggle against the legalization. There are those who would argue that legalizing medical marijuana would make it available, or more readily available to Americas youth. But Americas youth have access to illegal marijuana and they also have access to other drugs that are already legal, and abused by children, such as Ritalin. Legalizing medical marijuana would make it just as difficult for youth to get as it is already. One individual argued that legalizing medical marijuana "would allow marijuana dispensaries to set up shop across the state, in homes and storefronts on main streets and neighborhoods and apartment buildings" (Stop the Drug War, 2009). This seems a ridiculous statement for such is not the case with pharmacies and medical marijuana would be sold in pharmacies and likely grown by pharmaceutical companies. In one particular article it is noted that many believe the use of marijuana would generally increase around the nation if it were medically legalized. The report actually noted that, "At this point there are no convincing data to support this concern. The existing data are consistent with the idea that this would not be a problem if the medical use of marijuana were as closely regulated as other medications with abuse potential" (Drug War ...
