concerning racial profile demonstrates that this coverage is, overall, fair and equitable. For example, coverage of a journalists convention in Washington, DC reported on a speech given by Charles
Moose, the former police chief of Montgomery County, MD, who critically examined the growing abuses surrounding the practice of racial profiling. In his speech, Moose related the personal trauma experienced
by African Americans who have been targeted by racial profiling, as well as statistics that show this to be a common practice. The conclusions that the reader draws from
this reporting is that racial profiling is unjust and a legitimate source of dissension among the nations minority groups. On the other hand, media coverage of racial profiling also
includes opinions that support this practice. Michelle Malkin, a columnist for the newspaper USA Today, justifies racial profiling as a necessary tactic in the war on terror (2004). Malkin argues
that authorities should consider what occurred during the summer of 2001 when "Phoenix FBI agent Kenneth Williams urged his superiors to investigate militant Muslim men whom he suspected of training
in US flight schools as part of al-Qaeda missions" (2004, p. 13a). Williams observations were ignored because of concerns by his superiors that such an investigation would be evaluated as
