While it was a major concern that the workforce would forever have to be imported into the country in order to keep up with the growing demand, the potential for exclusion has been all but removed from the mix incorporating tourism into the Mauritian school system curriculum, a move that illustrates the islands quest for long-term tourist development. According to Karl Mootoosamy, director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, Mauritius has developed many offshoot industries as a means by which to attract and keep the global tourist dollar, including but not limited to diamond cutting, gold and diamond jewelry imports, textiles, golf, spa, diving and windsurfing. Interestingly, Mauritius has been a long-standing honeymoon destination; however, the ever-growing tourism industry has provided the island people with "a very compound product, starting with honeymooners, going to conventions, spa products, windsurfers, golfers, family -- very children-friendly. Everybody can now come to Mauritius and enjoy what we call a compound holiday.
