he fell, drastically and violently into a world that would forever change his life and leave him imprisoned. The following paper examines the life of Mark "Gator" Rogowski as it involves his success, discussing how the instant success and materialistic life he led helped him towards his fall. Mark "Gator" Rogowski Mark was a boy who never knew his father but his older brother essentially took on that role and taught and encouraged him in sports, even skateboarding which was considered "deviant" at the time (Johnson). By the time he was ten, in the year 1977, he was skating all the time, however a real issue with Mark was the fact that "he didnt have as much money as his friends he didnt quite fit in" ((Johnson). He states that he was very much a social outcast in a Southern California environment where everyone had the most popular items and the most popular clothes. "My fellow skater friends were all hyped on the surf thing - who had what board, the newest O.P.s, and who had a Hang Ten shirt. Then there I was, running around in Toughskins, yknow... . They were all wrapped up in the fashion and those types of superficial interests" (Johnson). He then ended up finding new friends who skated, friends who were not so concerned with material things as much as they were interested in skating itself. He quickly showed himself to be incredibly talented and he was, at a very young age, began winning contests through the skate park team. Then more and bigger sponsors started to seek him out and he ended up winning the Canadian Amateur Skateboarding Championships in 1982 (Johnson).
