In order to observe the concepts of love and tragedies in Shakespeare, one must examine "The Most Excellent and Lamentable Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet," "The Tragedy of Macbeth," "The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice," and "The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark" for they have elements of both love and tragedy. In fact, the love and tragedy are juxtaposed in each of these plays. Without the combination of the two elements, these plays would not have had nearly the same meaning and similarly, the same kind of effect on the reader. "The Most Excellent and Lamentable Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet" is a play about star-crossed lovers, and its theme is whether true love can conquer all. The play deals with following ones heart instead of continuing the feud between families. "The Most Excellent and Lamentable Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet" has an almost dream-like quality. This is evidenced when Romeo appears as an adolescent that is moon struck with the sight of Juliet, after recently having been in love with another girl. Once he saw Juliet, however, Romeo forgot about Rosaline. Romeo falls in love at first sight with Juliet. The two are very young. Some would suggest that this type of love only occurs in dreams. This play is one of the most famous love stories of all time. It is also one of the most famous tragedies of all time.
