First, no matter how upset or angry an article makes the reader, he or she should not respond by calling the editor names or using language that, as the old saying has it, would make a sailor blush. Today, the Internet is full of blogs and posts from people who rant and scream and use every foul word in the language, but this is not the format to use when writing a letter to the editor. Rants are dismissed as being too extreme to appear in the paper. Second, the letter should address just one issue, not a laundry list of concerns. And it should go without saying that the letter will be punctuated correctly, the spelling will be correct as well, and the construction of the piece will make it interesting and easy to read. That being said, the following is an example of such a letter. Dear Editor, This is to thank you for your October 29, 2009 article entitled "Recent Sex Scandals a lesson for managers," which quoted the remarks of SLU professor David C. Wyld. Professor Wyld noted that "high profile" scandals like the recent revelations of David Lettermans affairs with various employees have made everyone aware of the problem, and added that organizations must have "active sexual harassment training and policies in place ...
