is the recipe for basic salves. Salves can be made for everything from healing wounds to fending off insects. Although they are one of the simplest herbal preparations
to make, they are also one of the most familiar and useful. Although the details might vary somewhat with the plant being utilized,
the recipe for an herbal salve is really quite straightforward. First, the herbal practitioner must find some way to transfer the healing properties of the plant they desire to
utilize into an oil. Typically this is done by placing the appropriate part of the plant in the oil and allowing it to set for a time period ranging
from hours to weeks or even months so that the essential oils of the plants will leach out into the carrier oil. While
in times past salves were made of animal fats, today olive oil is the more common choice for the carrier oil. Olive oil has a strong reputation for use
as a medicinal even in the absence of other plant materials. When coupled with a healing plant, olive oil can become a very impressive healing liquid. In their
